The short answer: measure the free width and height of the wall, keep at least 10 cm of space around the mirror on every side, and tape the result out at full size before you order. That gives you the largest mirror that will sit comfortably — and a number you can match against a standard format or send us as a custom size.
Step 1 — Measure the free surface, not the wall
Use a rigid tape measure and write down the width and the height of the area the mirror may actually occupy. Measure the width at three heights (near the ceiling, at mid-height, near the floor) and the height at both ends. Walls, skirting boards and ceilings are rarely perfectly square, and the smallest of your readings is the one that counts.
Step 2 — Note everything that limits it
- light switches, sockets and thermostats that must stay reachable;
- radiators and shelves that sit in front of the glass;
- the swing of a door and the handle that comes with it;
- skirting boards, picture rails, ceiling lights and cornices;
- furniture below — a mirror above a console or sideboard usually looks best slightly narrower than the piece beneath it (see what size mirror goes above a sideboard).
Step 3 — Tape it out at full size
Mark the outline on the wall with painter's tape, or pin lining paper cut to the size you have in mind. Leave it for a day and look at it from the doorway, from the sofa and standing at the wall. The centre of a mirror usually sits around 145–155 cm from the floor — the reasoning is in at what height to hang a mirror. If the tape looks tight, go one format smaller; if it looks timid, go one larger.

Step 4 — Allow for the frame and the shape
The frame is part of what you hang on the wall, and it differs by family:
- Hand-carved wood: frame profile 4 to 8.5 cm wide, depending on the model.
- Slim aluminium: 10 mm at the front and 28 mm deep — almost no visual weight in a tight space.
- Frameless: a polished edge, flush with the wall.
Shape changes how you read the numbers. For a round mirror, the smaller of your free width and free height is the largest diameter you can use. For an arch, the height includes the curve at the top, so check the clearance at the highest point. For a frameless organic shape, measure the rectangle it fits into — width × height — and leave extra air, because the silhouette is asymmetric.
Step 5 — Match your numbers to a size
Every Reflessa mirror is made to order in our workshop in Wrocław, Poland, from 4 mm Optiwhite glass — so a large format is not a special case. The standard formats you can order directly in the shop:
| Frame family | Shape | Standard sizes |
|---|---|---|
| Hand-carved wood | Rectangular | 15 formats, 50 × 100 → 100 × 180 cm |
| Slim aluminium | Round | 8 diameters, Ø 60 → 200 cm |
| Slim aluminium | Arch | 9–10 formats, 160 × 80 → 200 × 140 cm |
| Frameless, polished edge | Organic | 5 formats, 120 × 60 → 210 × 100 cm |
If your measurement falls between two formats, take the smaller one that still fits your tape outline. If nothing fits, email sales@reflessa.com with the model name and the exact width × height in centimetres; we reply with a price and a production date. Read the details on our made-to-measure mirrors page — and note that a size we quote individually is a custom order, excluded from the 14-day right of withdrawal, whereas standard formats are not.

Frequently asked questions
How much smaller than the wall should the mirror be?
Keep at least 10 cm of free wall on every side, and more where a door, a radiator or a ceiling light sits close. Tape the outline before you decide.
Does the frame add to the size?
The frame is part of the mirror you hang. Carved wood frames are 4–8.5 cm wide, slim aluminium is 10 mm at the front, frameless has none. When you send a custom size, say that it is the space you have available and we confirm what can be produced and at what price.
Can I order a size that is not in your list?
Yes. Send the model name and the exact width × height in centimetres to sales@reflessa.com. A size quoted individually is a custom order and is excluded from the 14-day withdrawal right.
What is the largest standard size?
Up to 100 × 180 cm for carved wood, Ø 200 cm for round aluminium, 200 × 140 cm for arches and 210 × 100 cm for frameless organic shapes.
How much does delivery cost?
Free across Europe for sizes up to 120 × 60 cm; €100 flat for larger sizes — the exact amount shows in your cart.
